KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER – EVEN IN THE DARK WITH THE NEW KESTREL NV POCKET WEATHER METERS

Hand-held weather meters combines altimeter, barometer, thermometer, anemometer and hygrometer to measure, log and track every environmental condition.

BOOTHWYN, PA… NK announces the addition of three new Kestrel Weather Meters to its line of hand held weather instruments. The Kestrel 2500 NV, 3500 NV and 4000 NV are now available. The Kestrel NV models are military spec OD and feature a tactical red backlight designed specifically for use in low-light scenarios.

A complete hand-held weather station, the Kestrel 4000 NV measures every major environmental condition: barometric pressure, altitude, density altitude, temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind chill, dewpoint, wet bulb temperature and heat stress. This pocket-sized unit is more than just a weather meter for checking the current conditions; the Kestrel 4000 NV is a tracking device that allows users to log the environmental data for entire expeditions or flights. The Kestrel 2500 NV and 3500 NV operate similarly, but sample some (but not all) of the same information as the 4000. The 2500 NV measures: wind speed, temperature, wind chill, barometric pressure and altitude. The Kestrel 3500 NV measures the same features as the 2500 plus humidity dewpoint, heat stress and wet bulb temperature.

The NV’s red backlight preserves the natural night vision of users such as military personnel and pilots.  It takes 30 to 45 minutes for the average eye to adapt to darkness and maximize night vision.  Even a short burst of white, yellow, green or blue light “bleaches out” the rod cell photoreceptors in the eye and causes night blindness until the entire adaptation process can take place again.  Light in the red spectrum does not cause this “bleaching out”, preventing night blindness and night vision fatigue. This unit’s red backlight is also much dimmer than a standard backlight, making it more difficult to detect with the naked eye in night operations.

With a memory of 480 data points, the Kestrel 4000 NV can record months of data, depending on the storage interval. The easy-to-use customization menu allows the user to choose how often the unit will take regular measurements. Once programmed, the unit “wakes up” at the predetermined interval to measure and store all the readings. The data can then be reviewed in a graph with a scrolling cursor that tells the date, time and value for each reading.

Some of the features that set the Kestrel NV Pocket Weather Meters apart from other weather instruments available today are:

  • Full portability- less than 2 by 5 inches and under 3.6 ounces
  • Tactical red backlight to preserve night vision
  • Rugged, military spec OD colored case that is completely waterproof and floats
  • Guaranteed accuracy specifications that ensure precise and reliable readings
  • A large, backlit display that allows easy use in any conditions, day or night
  • Humidity sensor that yields ±3% accuracy, and offers greater stability in extreme, low humidity conditions (Kestrel 4000 NV and 3500 NV)
  • Optional computer interface allows users to upload the stored data for in-depth analysis and long term storage (Kestrel 4000 NV)
  • Patented user-replaceable impeller, in case of damage or wear
  • Clock and calendar to give day, date and time of every reading
  • Multiple language capabilities- English, Spanish, French, German, Italian (Kestrel 4000 NV)
  • Neck lanyard and carry case
  • Operates on two AAA batteries (Kestrel 4000 NV) or one CR2032 battery (Kestrel 2500 and 3500) for at least 400 hours (included)
  • Made in the USA with a 2-year warranty

Nielsen-Kellerman’s Kestrel Weather division has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically advanced portable weather instruments for ten years and owns multiple patents on their unique features. Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters are employed by thousands of users in hundreds of different activities around the world. Other products in the Kestrel family include the Kestrel 1000 ($89), which measures solely wind speed, the Kestrel 2000 ($119) which measures wind speed, temperature and wind chill, Kestrel 2500 ($199), which measures wind speed, temperature, wind chill, barometric pressure and altitude, the Kestrel 3000 ($179), which measures wind speed, temperature, wind chill, relative humidity, heat stress index, and dewpoint, the Kestrel 3500 ($249), which measures wind speed, temperature, wind chill, relative humidity, heat stress index, dewpoint, barometric pressure, altitude and wet bulb temperature, and the Kestrel 4000 ($329), which measures wind speed, temperature, wind chill, relative humidity, dew point, heat stress index, barometric pressure, altitude, density altitude and wet bulb temperature.
