KESTREL POCKET WEATHER METERS TO DEBUT IN DESERT TAN COLOR
Hand-held weather device proves as rugged as the environment and as stealthy as the mission with the addition of the Desert Tan Kestrel NV line.
BOOTHWYN, PA... Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters bring a new product color to the front lines with Desert Tan. The Desert Tan Kestrel NV line joins the ranks as a top customer request alongside the established industry standard Kestrel NV models in Olive Drab.
The introduction of the Desert Tan color to the Kestrel family helps make the hand-held weathers even more relevant for modern military use. Sal Palma, writer for SniperWorx E-Magazine, says, “The Desert Tan model is a welcome change. This color obviates the need to camouflage the meter. This is particularly important to our forces in Afghanistan or those on the way there.” The Desert Tan color variant is scheduled for release April 17, 2009, and will debut in the Kestrel 4000 NV and Kestrel 4500 NV models.
Katie Godfrey, Nielsen Kellerman Sales and Marketing Manager, explains the new color is about more than simply appearance, “The development of the Desert Tan Kestrel NV offers our customers an additional option to perform at maximum concealment.” Kestrel Weather Meters’ NV line is designed with features requested by our military and civilian customers engaged in military and tactical operations. Kestrel NV models are olive drab or desert tan in color and feature a reduced-brightness red backlight designed specifically for detection-avoidance in low-light scenarios. This special backlight is also designed to preserve the natural night vision of the user. It takes 30 to 45 minutes for the average eye to adapt to darkness and maximize night vision, and even a short burst of white, yellow, green or blue light “bleaches out” the rod cell photoreceptors in the eye and causes night blindness until the entire adaptation process can take place again.
A complete hand-held weather station, the Kestrel 4500 NV measures every major environmental condition: barometric pressure, altitude, density altitude, temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind chill, dew point, wet bulb temperature and heat stress. With its digital compass for wind direction along with a cross-wind calculator for accurate shot placement and small-plane safety, The Kestrel 4500 NV is a comprehensive, portable weather tracker. These pocket-sized units are more than just current-conditions meters – they also feature extensive memory and can log all environmental data for days at a time. Stored data can be viewed in an on-screen graph or uploaded to a computer via the optional interface. Built and tested tough (leak-tested to IP67 and drop-tested to MIL-ST-810F), the Kestrel 4000NV and 4500NV have been proven performers for soldiers, law enforcement, firefighters and others who demand maximum ruggedness from their equipment. The Kestrel 4000NV retails for $359 and the 4500NV for $419. GSA pricing is available.
Every Kestrel Pocket Weather Meter is backed by a five year warranty and is designed, developed, built, tested and supported here in the USA. Nielsen-Kellerman’s Kestrel Weather division has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically advanced portable weather instruments for more than twelve years and owns multiple patents on their unique features. Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters are employed by thousands of users in hundreds of different activities around the world.
