NK AND AMERICANSNIPERS.ORG TEAM UP TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT TO DEPLOYED MILITARY PERSONNEL

APRIL 2007, BOOTHWYN, PA… Nielsen-Kellerman, manufacturers of Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters, recently donated 100 Kestrel 4000 Pocket Weather Trackers to the American Snipers organization. Relied upon by shooters worldwide to ensure accuracy and safety, Kestrel Meters are frequently on the list of most wanted equipment for military snipers but are rarely issued to deployed personnel. This donation will help American soldiers stationed overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan perform their mission more effectively and keep themselves safe.

“I am still ‘wowed’ by the contribution. These will undoubtedly help to save lives of our troops and make them more effective in their work,” says American Sniper Program Director Doug Bourdo. “I can surely say that the Kestrels will help the snipers to more fully evaluate the ambient weather related environmental factors that affect their shots. With the Kestrel 4000 Pocket Weather Tracker as the preferred tool to determine those factors, the snipers will be able to deliver more accurate shots on target to eliminate enemy threats.”

Weather data including wind speed, relative humidity and barometric pressure influence a bullet’s trajectory, and are essential information to know before taking any shot. The 3.6 ounce Kestrel 4000 measures all these parameters, and is no larger than a cell phone.

“There are many differing views surrounding the politics and policies of this war. But one thing is agreed upon—we have to support the troops and make sure they have the equipment they need,” says NK President Richard Kellerman. “NK is honored to be able to contribute to the American Sniper’s efforts.”

“The logistics of running the US military are staggering and snipers are just one small spoke in a very big wheel, “ says Bourdo, when trying to explain the need for an organization like American Sniper. Snipers typically need specialized gear that is often not standard government issue and Kestrel Meters fall into this category (though always high on the list of top requested gear from deployed snipers).

The American Sniper organization was formed by a group of police snipers who were struggling with insufficient equipment in their own jobs. They were concerned that the deployed military snipers were experiencing the same issues, and started sending the overseas snipers equipment from their own personal gear bags. The organization gained momentum and began networking with other police snipers, as well as concerned businesses and donors, and now sends everything from personal hygiene products to highly specialized equipment. One hundred percent of all monetary and gear donations go directly to the military snipers. For more information about this organization, visit: www.AmericanSnipers.org.
