CADENCE T1 ROWER’S WATCH IS A GOLD WINNER
OF
THE 2006 APPLIANCE DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARDS
JUNE 2006, BOOTHWYN, PA… Appliance
Design Magazine announced its 2006 Design Excellence International
Awards Competition winners, and winning the Leisure Appliances
division was the NK Cadence T1 wristwatch. The Design Awards
strive to recognize products that successfully combine advanced
technology with compelling industrial design, while differentiating
themselves from the competition.
Products were judged on four criteria: innovation,
aesthetics, human factors and technical merits. The Cadence T1
scored the highest in its category, garnishing the Gold Award. “This is a bold
product in an interesting niche category.” said contest judge
Chris Cavello of the Cadence.
The Cadence is the only watch designed specifically
for rowers, and uses a patented tilt-switch to measure stroke
rate from the oar’s feathering and squaring motion. The
watch can strapped to the end of an oar handle, for immediate,
wireless stroke rate readings. Rates can also be taken by pressing
the dedicated rate button while wearing the watch on the wrist.
Since most athletes wear a sports watch, the combination of training
tool/timepiece consolidates the amount of equipment needed for
a rowing workout. The multi-functional nature of the Cadence
as training tool and fashion accessory creates opportunities
for product personalization; bands are available in a variety
of colors.
When developing the Cadence watch, NK relied on the design expertise
of Philadelphia industrial design firm Bresslergroup. The consultancy
serves consumer, medical, office and industrial goods manufacturers.
Since its founding in 1970, Bresslergroup has won more than 70
major design awards including IDEA and iF Hanover, as well as authored
more than 90 patents.
For over twenty-five years, Nielsen-Kellerman
has been known worldwide for its waterproof speed measurement,
timing and audio systems for competitive rowers. Virtually every
shell at the 2004 Athens Olympic games carried NK equipment.
Nielsen-Kellerman’s Kestrel
Weather division has been researching, developing and manufacturing
technically advanced portable weather instruments for over ten
years and owns multiple patents on their unique features.
