I am trying to compile some information for our Highschool Football coach concerning HI, wet bulb temperature charts and humidity as it impacts athlete safety and performance. I was showing him how the kestrel could be set up on the field to monitor these items. I do have a question about recording the measurements. I had a representative from the National Weather Service come to my home to evaluate for COOP observer participation and he told me I should have my Kestrel set up out in the yard. I had it set up under a tree(in the shade) since your manual states 'not in direct sunlight'. So for tracking values over a long period of time in a stationary location should the meter(and weather vane) be set up in the shade or out in the sun?
For monitoring conditions out on the practice field, and if the instrument should be in the shade, then should some sort of cover be constructed for the instrument to set under?
