Technical Project Lead
Technical Project Lead
Nielsen-Kellerman is seeking applicants for the position of Technical Project Lead for our new product development team. The Technical Project Lead is responsible for coordinating the efforts of team members and consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. This position will report to the Director of Engineering and will work closely with engineering, sales & marketing and production. Projects will include new products in our three current lines - Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters, NK Sports Performance Tools and Blue Ocean Audio Products - as well as future product lines. This is a great opportunity to help build a tangible American-made product and put it in the hands of our customers. Responsibilities of this position will include:
New Product Development Project Management
- Direct and lead new product development projects from concept to production.
- Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success metrics that support business strategy in collaboration with senior management.
- Coordinate cross-functional development teams to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Maintain visual planning boards for timely and accurate presentation of schedules, budgets, action items, and design drawings.
- Manage changes in project scope, identify potential obstacles, and devise contingency plans.
- Use structured problem-solving tools to assist design team to identify knowledge gaps, resolve issues, and integrate information.
- Assist with market research and technical research.
Process Management for NPD
- Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management using Lean Principles.
- Maintain and continuously improve the process for new product development.
- Create and document processes, checklists, and templates for undocumented aspects of product development process.
Product Management (Post Launch)
- Document changes to existing products.
- Provide technical support to sales and customer service departments.
Desired Qualifications:
- College degree (BS, BA).
- Minimum 2 to 3 years professional experience in an NK/Kestrel market-related field, including military, firefighting, technical applications or the outdoor industry. We're looking for candidates who can understand and relate to the needs of our customers. Exposure to or training in engineering, design, manufacturing and/or sales and marketing beneficial. Experience or training in Lean, TQM, Six Sigma or other Process/Quality systems a plus.
- High proficiency with computers, especially Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with any CAD, graphic design, or mechanical design tools will be helpful.
- Ability to work independently and with initiative in a small team environment with a strong attention to detail. Desire to provide solutions to help customers and teammates succeed.
- Demonstrated analytical and organization abilities. Able to integrate diverse information, understand issues, and pursue solutions. Systematic, yet comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
